[hist-analytic] Example of a historical process

Someone has asked me to identify a "historical process." Fair question. One good example, I think, is Thermidor (in revolution); the tendency or sequence of events in which the more radical or revolutionary ideological elements of a successful revolution become subdued. 

As for processes, generally, I take them as more fundamental than events. I owe this, largely, to a conjecture by A. A. Robb.
